U12 Joeys - End of season match report(Coach: Patrick Sabian)
A miss-matched battle shaped up on Sunday, with the unbeaten and top of the table Box Hill taking on the Eagles. On the last meeting, the Eagles went down in a heavy defeat – but the Eagles are a team rapidly on the improve with super coach Patrick. A two goal lead to Box Hill at half time didn’t deter the Eagles, who matched Box Hill strongly against the wind – playing to the coaches game plan to lift the ball at every opportunity.Playing with the wind in the second half, the Eagles slotted home two goals to draw level, and then picked up a penalty in the box to take the lead 3-2 with 10 minutes to go. Box Hill responded with everything to try and get back into the game, with two shots at goal off the woodwork and some physical play - the Eagles desperate but resolute in defence. At the final whistle the Eagles taking the win 3-2 – much to the joy of players and parents alike. The Eagles best win of the season. We may not be playing finals, but certainly the boys played their own Grand Final on Sunday. Well done Eagles! The boys were a great bunch to coach. It was pleasing to see them develop an unselfish team spirit, so much so, that every single player scored at least one goal during the season. Individually all made great strides with their skills and control. They became a lot more comfortable with throw-ins, corners and goal kicks, and developed a good sense of positional play. I'm very confident the club will be well served in the future by this bunch of determined, hard running and skillful boys. We were lucky to have the support of a great manager, and a fantastic group of encouraging parents. It made for an enjoyable and successful season. Well done to all.
